During the time working as a researcher at Development and Policies Research Center (DEPOCEN), I also attended to consultancy and survey projects. Below is the description and my roles in these projects:
Illicit Cigarette Trade Study in Vietnam (for University of IIlinois, Chicago - 2018)
The research aimed at generating new estimates of illicit trade in Vietnam and comparing them to prior estimates to observe the changes in the levels of illicit trade before, during and after tobacco excise tax increases. Furthermore, the research estimated the geographic, demographic and socioeconomic variation in illicit trade. DEPOCEN designed and conducted a nationally representative survey of over 2,700 households in 9 provinces across the country.
In this project, I was in charge of being supervisor of 4 enumerators to conduct the survey of 300 respondents in 2 provinces (Da Nang and Quang Binh).
An Evaluation of the Current Situation, Designing and Piloting the Monitoring and Evaluation Framework for Science and Technology Organizations in Vietnam (for National Agency for Science and Technology Information - from 2017 to 2018)
This project included three main tasks: (1) Assess the status quo of the M&E for R&D organisations in the public sector, and propose the solutions to improve the capacity and effectiveness of the research activity management of the R&D system, and the M&E of the R&D organizations in the public sector in Vietnam; (2) Develop the M&E Framework for R&D organization in the public sector that is appropriate to Vietnam, and test the framework, and (3) Develop the draft of the M&E Manual Guide, and suggest the legal framework for the M&E implementation. For task (1), a comprehensive evaluation combining both quantitative and qualitative methods was conducted with 23 key informant interviews, 6 case studies and a quantitative survey of 411 R&D public organizations provided a clear picture of the situation of public R&D in Vietnam. After task (2) and (3) were done, the M&E Framework and Manual Guide have been implemented and received feedback from R&D organizations during the pilot phases.
In this project, I was in charge of conducting desk review, collaborating with other colleagues in designing questionnaires for the first task, participating in qualitative and quantitative surveys, processing data and working with a international expert in writing and translating reports and all tasks.
Knowledge, Attitude and Practice survey on Child Labor (for International Labor Organization in Vietnam - from 2017 to 2018)
In this project, we conducted a baseline survey about Knowledge, Attitude and Practice on Child Labor in 3 cities/provinces (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and An Giang) with various groups: Households, children, policy makers and media personnel. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were applied. The quantitative survey was conducted with 1176 households and 385 children in 27 communes as well as 101 representatives of governmental agencies and 92 representatives of media agencies.
In this project, I was in charge of performing desk review, working with other colleagues in designing instruments (which questionnaires) , processing data and writing report.

End-line study on Consultancy Service for conducting an end-line survey and a final evaluation of UNFPA’s intervention on older people in Hai Duong and Ben Tre provinces (for UNFPA in Vietnam - 2016)
Within the framework of UNFPA support to the Vietnam Government in the period 2012 – 2016, UNFPA Country Office (CO) has supported Hai Duong and Ben Tre provinces in providing technical assistance and support for program intervention that address aging population and other people’s issues, including improving well – being of older people, that can be considered for policy development at national level. In the end-line surveys, our research center conducted a quantitative survey with 800 elderly as well as 37 key informant interviews and 24 focus group discussions with relevant state agencies and implementing partners.
In this survey, I participated in the fieldwork as a supervisors of 5 enumerators and later I was in charge of translating the report to English.
End-line study on situation of domestic violence and sex ratio at birth in Hai Duong and Ben Tre provinces (for UNFPA in Vietnam - 2016)
Two pilot models on domestic violence prevention and response (DV) and prevention of sex-ratio at birth (SRB) imbalance were designed and have been implemented in Hai Duong and Ben Tre provinces from 2013 to 2016. At the end of the project, an end-line study was called for to collect end-line data for both intervention models on DV and SRB, including level of knowledge, attitudes/perceptions and practices (KAP) of local authorities, key leaders in communities, men and women on DV and SRB imbalance and propose recommendations for nationwide application of the intervention models. The study involves surveying with 2040 people (1360 women about their KAP on DV, 680 women and 680 men about their KAP on SRB) in 5 province Hai Duong, Ben Tre, Ha Nam, Thai Binh, Tien Giang.
In this project, I was in charge of being a supervisor of 10 enumerators for conducting a quantitative survey in Hai Duong province. After that, I worked on translating the report to English.
Behavioral Study on HIV/HCV Prevention Behaviors among People who inject drugs (PWID) (for PSI Vietnam - 2016)
The January 2016 PWID Behavioral Survey is designed to overview the performance and impact of the Social Marketing of LDSS project implemented in the period of 2012 - 2015 in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Thai Nguyen. The consultant team has conducted face-to-face interviews with 1,100 male PWID in three provinces, including Hanoi (400 PWID), Ho Chi Minh City (400 PWID) and Thai Nguyen (300 PWID) with Respondent Driven Sampling method which combines a modified form of chain-referral or snowball sampling with a mathematical system for weighting the sample to compensate for not having been drawn randomly.
In this project, I was a member of the survey team in Hanoi and we did a quantitative survey with PWID in Hanoi.
